GTEP: Enhancing Practice Awards
Aim
To raise standards by creating innovative approaches in the teaching of mathematics, science or design and technology at the school departmental level, and to develop the best of these innovations into programmes capable of scale-up and roll-out.
Background
The programme began in September 2004 and is in the pilot stage. Three schools have been awarded grants to develop their teaching of maths, science or technology, and to disseminate the work widely. The funding, of up to £70,000, is to enable the appointment of additional staffing, to allow teachers time for development and action research in their own schools and to create links with Institutes of Higher Education. The intention, following the pilot, is to select a small number of proposals annually, and create a rolling programme of school-initiated projects.
