Applications for support

The Trustees take a proactive approach to the work they wish to support, employing specialist staff and advisers to research their areas of interest and bring forward suitable proposals.  It should therefore be understood that the majority of unsolicited proposals we receive will be unsuccessful.

However, within this limited scope for unsolicited approaches, we will consider exceptional proposals which fit closely with Trustees’ specific areas of interest.  The Current Projects section of this website gives a good indication of the type of programmes that Trustees are currently interested in supporting.

GTEP only supports programmes which aim to bring benefit to the UK and its education system.

Currently we are not seeking to support initiatives in the Early Years or Primary sectors, focusing instead on the Secondary (11-19) and Further Education sectors.

GTEP does not give direct support to individuals, educational fees, or expeditions.

If you feel your organisation has a project which might interest Trustees you are encouraged first to email one of the GTEP staff members listed above with a couple of paragraphs describing your idea. This first step is vital if GTEP does not have an existing relationship with your organisation.

If GTEP staff feel the idea is in line with Trustees’ priorities you may be asked to submit a brief proposal (of around 3-6 pages, depending on the complexity of the project).  All proposals will need to include the following information:
  • A summary of no more than 150 words
  • The aim of the project
  • How it fits with GTEP priorities
  • Background to the project (including national context etc)
  • Description of activity to be undertaken
  • Expected (and measurable) outputs and outcomes
  • The long-term prospects for (a) impact; and (b) sustainability beyond the lifetime of the grant
  • How the project will be evaluated
  • Timeline
  • Budget
Shortly after receipt of this proposal the relevant GTEP team member will contact you to discuss next steps.
