University of Cambridge: Subject leadership in Creativity in Design and Technology
Aim
The programme will investigate and enhance good practice in design and technology in secondary schools departments particularly by encouraging and enabling young people to be creative.
Background
The programme will try to identify:
- The conditions in which design and technology teaching thrives in secondary schools.
- Key features of effective design and technology departments in secondary schools.
- Key features of effective design and technology teaching,
- The nature of teaching strategies employed which motivate young learners in design and technology department in secondary schools.
And will go further
- To provide a high standard of evidence on which to base future practice through rigorous evaluation of planned interventions within typical classrooms settings (Key Stage 3 -5) in terms of pupil attainment, motivation, creative work and attitudes, and various classroom processes.
- To disseminate results and recommendations in academic and professional journals, conferences and meetings with school based audiences as well as via a website and teacher resource packs.
