Since its inception, GTEP has developed and managed a wide range of innovative projects to enrich and enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in UK schools and colleges. Following a review of activity, Trustees have agreed to focus GTEP's work on three key aims:
- to support teachers of 11-19 physical science, by piloting innovative approaches to teacher recruitment and professional development and by supporting curriculum resources which encourage innovation in the classroom;
- to support an increase in Level 3 and Level 4 STEM skills within the UK workforce, by developing professional development opportunities for FE lecturers, supporting the development of training pathways (e.g. Diplomas, Apprenticeships and Foundation Degrees ) and promoting a recognition of the importance of science and engineering technicians.
- to support a coherent national system of STEM education by partnering key organisations ( Royal Academy of Engineering, SCORE, Science Learning Centres, STEMNET, etc ) in the delivery of initiatives which promote greater collaboration across the sector and through targeted research which informs government policy.
