About GTEP

Gatsby Technical Education Projects (GTEP) was established by the Trustees of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation in 1996. GTEP is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

GTEP develops and manages a range of innovative programmes in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

GTEP receives the vast majority of its funding from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. Since 1996, the Foundation has awarded grants totalling more than �170 million to around 400 projects in STEM education and GTEP has managed or advised on the development of most of these.

Our current work focuses on the following aims:

• to increase the number of people with Level 3 and 4 STEM skills by promoting the status of science, engineering and IT technicians and supporting technician training pathways and qualifications that deliver real benefit to those who pursue them;
  
  
• to support science in secondary schools and colleges by piloting new approaches to teacher recruitment and professional development and through initiatives which encourage innovation and engaging practical activity in science lessons and STEM clubs;
  
  
• to support selected national initiatives which aim to increase coordination and collaboration between the wide range of organisations and projects promoting STEM education;
  
  
• to inform and influence policy makers and opinion formers to secure lasting, positive impact on the education and skills landscape. We do this by sharing the results of our proof-of-principle projects and by commissioning policy-relevant research.
