Enhanced Design and Technology Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Middlesex University
Aim
To positively influence initial teacher training in Design and Technology Initial Teacher Training (ITT) through the Technology Enhancement Programme (TEP).
Background
In close collaboration with TEP, Middlesex University is adapting its PGCE course to demonstrate the immediate benefits of TEP subject enhancement for student teachers and partnership schools.
The enhancement will be provided through:
- A series of TEP workshops supported by the development of a major TEP handbook
- Multi-media resources
- A series of unique ‘toolkits’ (e.g. electronics in control, smart materials and manufacturing) provided free to students.
It is intended that these resources will set a new education ‘industry standard’ for ITT and rapidly become available to all PGCE providers by dissemination via TEP’s and Middlesex University’s networks.
The effect of the programme on the Middlesex partnership schools will be evaluated independently throughout a three-year period. It is expected that there will be a positive roll-out benefit as teachers move to other schools after completing their training.
