Research on science teacher deployment
2008-
The National Foundation for Educational Research is currently undertaking research into the deployment of specialist science teachers on behalf of GTEP. The research, due to be published in early 2010, looks at how science teachers are deployed and explores some of the reasons behind existing practice in order to smooth the transition to specialist teaching of the sciences.

Impact evaluation of the '21st Century Science' GCSE courses
2008-
In 2006 the Key Stage 4 science curriculum changed significantly. The aim of the reform was both to motivate more students to study science and to improve scientific literacy. GTEP has partnered with the ESRC to fund Leeds University to undertake a study examining the impact of the new suite of GCSE courses created to match the new curriculum. Outcomes of the study will include: an independent evaluation of the curriculum reforms and their impact on pupil participation post-16; lessons for policy makers regarding future curriculum reform; guidance for schools on curriculum planning; and strategic information on science teachers' professional development needs. The project will run until 2011.

New Engineering Foundation research into the emerging technologies capabilities of FE
2008-
The aim of this study is to establish a baseline position on how well shaped up the FE engineering and technology sector is to respond to the contemporary challenges imposed by the emergence of new technologies. It will also highlight improvements and interventions needed over the next three years, for accelerated educational development and make recommendations to government, its agencies and to FE colleges.
