Gatsby Teacher Fellowships (GTF) Programme
Aim
The Gatsby Teacher Fellowships (GTF) programme was established to identify teachers of mathematics, science and design and technology who can make a significant contribution to the effective and inspirational teaching of their subject.
Background
The fellowships are normally for one year and provide an honorarium and support funding to allow the holder of the award to carry out innovative curriculum development and, where appropriate, gain further professional qualifications.
Around twelve teacher fellows are selected each February to carry out original projects during the following academic year. Fellows are offered funding to enable them to achieve the objectives of their fellowship projects and are supported by mentors and through networking seminars. Successful fellows also receive an honorarium on completion of their projects. Over 70 fellows have been selected so far and together they form a self-supporting network. Fellows’ projects are of a diverse nature, including, for example: innovations in curriculum development, case studies of original practice, in-service training, and developing materials for projects or experiments. Emphasis is placed on encouraging continuing professional development and the dissemination of project work.
