Science Enhancement Programme (SEP)

Aim

To develop innovative resources that support the study of new fields of science to raise the achievement and motivation of secondary science students and providing teacher support for effective understanding of fundamental scientific concepts; and work with Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) providers and others to establish programmes that support the adoption and classroom use of these approaches and create a culture change in the professional development of science teachers.

Background

SEP in its new phase is focusing on ITT, CPD, enhancing subject knowledge and practical work. It offers to those in education and training low cost access to quality practical activities and provides pupils and teachers with resources that challenge, motivate and stimulate.

SEP is setting a national network of associate schools and teachers. The associate schools/teachers offer SEP the ability to trial new training initiatives and resources and contribute to the strategy of continuous improvement in science education (for further information visit SEP’s website).

SEP projects have a wide range of products that include (academic and professional papers), journal papers, pamphlets, books, CD ROMs, web-based teaching resources. SEP projects commission or utilise specific equipment or utilise kit from Middlesex University Teaching Resources.
