Enhanced Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at Swansea University

Aim

To attract and retain candidates of the highest calibre to become teachers of mathematics through a programme of enhanced PGCE and CPD support.

Background

The programme will select up to 12 high quality students per year for 2 years, from existing Mathematics PGCE courses - which take over 50 students a year - to join a seamless enhanced PGCE and CPD mathematics programme. The centrepiece is a set of modules leading to an MA for students and school based mentors. This support will be available over a 4 year period.

It will create an elite cohort of maths teachers with advanced skills that can lead in developing high quality provision post 14 and who can progress swiftly to become leaders in their professions. A bursary is provided for each student linked to the ITT and CPD modules. It will cover the costs of course fees, books, professional association membership etc.

During their PGCE and as part of their CPD, students will undertake a number of modules (at their own pace), that will offer credits towards an MA.
