Collaborative Science Programme in Tower Hamlets
Aim
To raise attainment in science in Tower Hamlets in Key Stage 3 by developing the practice and specialist knowledge of science teachers.
Background
Tower Hamlets Local Education Authority (LEA) is in its second year of the programme, which is aimed at raising attainment in science at Key Stage 3.
The project:
- Places a particular emphasis on pedagogy in order to improve the effectiveness of teaching and its impact on learning;
- Uses GTEP’s Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Programme (TEEP) to bring cohesion and enhanced value to Key Stage 3 teaching and learning;
- Works alongside GTEP’s Science Enhancement Programme (SEP) to enhance teachers’ specialist science knowledge with a particular focus on scientific enquiry and practical investigation; Offer science teachers consultant support on an individual basis; Supports pupils transition between Key Stage 2 and 3 and ensures curriculum continuity across the key stages.
