Cambridge University Subject Enhanced Initial Teacher Education and Training
Aim
To train high quality secondary school teachers of design and technology and science.
Background
In 1999 Gatsby and the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education launched a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme in design and technology, mathematics and science. This evolved in 2003 into the Cambridge University Subject Enhanced Initial Teacher Education and Training Programme. The support available includes:
- Access to outstanding schools with strong science and design and technology departments, supported by well trained mentors
- A raft of resources and residential courses (available through experts from university departments and others) to improve students' subject knowledge and support the application of this knowledge in a classroom environment
- Access to the Technology and Science Enhancement Programmes (TEP and SEP)
- Financial support and automatic eligibility to Cambridge's MEd
- The opportunity to become a Gatsby Research Fellow.
Last year the SCITT design and technology course was inspected by Ofsted and received the top category A rating. Ofsted said: 'a major strength of the course is that it introduces the trainees to the range of teaching and learning resources provided by GTEP.
