Teacher Scientist Network (TSN) Norwich
Aim
To enhance science in schools, across all phases of education, in the Norfolk area.
Background
The programme supports science in local schools by:
- Involving the local science community, based principally on the Norwich Research Park, in education
- Encouraging activities of mutual benefit to both teachers and scientists
- Providing support, advice and resources to the teachers and scientists within the network
- Regularly reviewing, adapting and updating activities in accordance with the changing needs of our members.
TSN has a ‘bottom-up’ approach, listening and responding to the needs of teachers at all times. Our Steering Group, a mixture of predominantly teachers together with some scientists, guide our activities. Our total membership is approximately 300 people.
In addition to our core activity, the formation of one-to-one partnerships between teachers and scientists, TSN runs Master Classes for secondary school teachers to update the teachers’ scientific knowledge, Primary Science Workshops for primary school teachers addressing topics they find difficult to teach and a rapidly expanding Kit Club which provides science equipment on a loan basis to schools. We also organise and contribute to other local events designed to make science more accessible and more fun.
